Iranian short films go on screen in Indian filmfest

Iranian short films have gone on screen at the 6th edition of the Delhi International Film Festival (DIFF) in India.

The Indian event screened ‘Ismail’, ‘Mother’ and ‘Saad’s Olive Tree’ in the short film section.

“We can be either present or absent on the war fields, but war has a bearing on lives and relationships of people. Ismail is a story of a young lad, who meets a girl in the backdrop of a war, and how their lives change forever,” the synopsis of 12-minute ‘Ismail’ directed by Javad Abdollahzadeh reads.

The 30-minute ‘Mother’ by Fatima Haqiqat is about a mother who failed to save her children and is running away to Syria along with a convoy of women and children when ISIS attacks Shengal. However she blame herself for the fail, and narrates the whole story along the way.

The 24-minute ‘Saad’s Olive Tree’ by Ahmad Zayery tells the story of Saad, a boy with big dreams who loves football. He loses his eyes and friends in a mortar explosion and subsequently locks himself up at home. Then his mother encourages him to go out again with so many efforts and creativity.

The DIFF was conceptualized and created in 2012, to celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema and New Delhi. It is the catalyst for bringing people of New Delhi closer to the best of Indian and World cinema in the year of its centenary celebrations.

The 6th edition of the DIFF was held December 4-9, 2017, at Central Park, NDMC Convention Centre and Connaught Place in New Delhi, India.
